From its inception, the Mormon church has claimed the "fulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ" was restored (past tense) through the prophet Joseph Smith. This includes the doctrine received in the Book of Mormon, as well as the priesthood keys, ordinances, and other teachings provided by Smith. However, Rusty Nel has taken it upon himself to create a new narrative that suggests the restoration is still "ongoing". This message was one of the main themes of the April, 2020 General Conference.
